Overview
The Lead Electrician will carry out routine maintenance, repair, inspection, and installation of electrical services equipment in customers' homes and other properties in accordance with prescribed work schedules. All work must comply with Institute of Electrical Engineering (IEE) Wiring Regulations and Sovereign Network Group's (SNG) established procedures, ensuring delivery of a high-quality, safe, and customer-focused service in the South Hampshire area.
Working within the broad direction set by the Technical Manager – Electrical, the role holder will deliver defined accountabilities with a limited degree of supervision. The post holder is accountable for individual performance and the impact of their work on SNG's service delivery.
Key Accountabilities
Electrical Maintenance and Repairs
- Carry out routine servicing, response repairs, fault diagnosis, and rectification of electrical services equipment to meet agreed work schedules and quality standards.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with current IEE Wiring Regulations and Health & Safety at Work requirements.
Qualified Supervisor (QS) Responsibilities
- Undertake the duties of a NICEIC Qualified Supervisor (QS), including signing off electrical certification.
- Audit electrical certification provided by external contractors and inspect a minimum of 10% of their on‑site works.
- Conduct audits of electricians and site validations for planned works.
Inspection, Reporting, and Certification
- Accurately record and report the condition and status of electrical services equipment using inspection sheets, minor works certificates, and installation certificates.
- Identify defects, recommend remedial actions, and escalated complex issues to the Technical Manager – Electrical where required.
- Ensure accurate and timely completion of all certification and compliance documentation.
Materials and Resources
- Estimate, requisition, and recommend materials and spare parts necessary to complete works effectively and compliantly.
- Ensure materials usage aligns with regulatory standards and value‑for‑money principles.
Customer and Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise professionally and promptly with internal teams, external contractors, and customers to communicate progress, outcomes, and any required follow‑up actions.
- Maintain a customer‑focused approach, ensuring minimal disruption and clear communication.
- Mobile and Out‑of‑Hours Working
- Effectively use mobile or paper‑based systems to manage appointments, job records, timesheets, vehicle checks, materials management, and performance tracking.
- Participate in the out‑of‑hours call‑out service in line with SNG policies and procedures.
Teamwork and Collaboration
- Assist other trade teams when required to support service delivery.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors, and partner organisations to support SNG's corporate objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
