About the Role:
As a Lead Development Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of all engineering aspects of assigned new product development projects, ensuring programmes are delivered on schedule while maintaining the highest standards of engineering excellence.
Working across multiple departments and external partners, you\'ll drive integrated engineering solutions, support production delivery, and mentor colleagues within the development engineering team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and delivery of engineering activities to meet New Product Development schedules.
- Ensure all systems and designs comply with engineering standards, safety requirements, and relevant regulations including CE, ABYC, RINA, and LY3.
- Lead the design and integration of mechanical systems, including:
- Fuel, fresh water, black water, grey water and bilge systems
- Air conditioning and ventilation systems
- Engines, generators and ancillary equipment
- Hydraulic and stabilisation systems
- Lead the design and integration of electrical systems, including:
- Distribution and control systems
- Multiplex systems and software interfaces
- Electrical panels, control boxes, and cable looms
- Ensure effective collaboration across Engineering, Design, CAD, Composites, Production and Supply Chain teams.
- Oversee the delivery of Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering build information, pre-build assemblies and loom data.
- Provide technical support during the first production builds and work closely with Sales and Aftersales teams.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, promoting best practice and continuous improvement.
- Champion a strong culture of health, safety, quality and engineering excellence.
Essential Skills and Experience:
- Proven development engineering experience with a strong track record of project delivery.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform effectively under pressure.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering systems.
- Experience working with 2D and 3D CAD design tools.
- High level of computer literacy and technical documentation skills.
Technical Expertise:
- Knowledge of low-voltage DC systems, including:
- 12V and 24V DC systems
- Safety and compliance requirements
- Control and monitoring systems
- Knowledge of AC electrical systems, including:
- 400V 50Hz Three Phase
- Transformers, inverters and power converters.
- Electrical safety and compliance requirements.
- Experience in programming and systems integration would be advantageous.
- Knowledge of yacht, marine, or highly regulated engineering environments is highly desirable.
