Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Design Engineer to lead and oversee design projects across a variety of systems and products. This role combines technical leadership with hands‑on design expertise, guiding teams to deliver high‑quality, cost‑effective, and sustainable engineering solutions.

As a senior member of the design team, you will manage complex projects from concept to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead cross-functional design teams, providing mentorship and technical guidance.
• Set clear goals, manage performance, and foster collaboration across departments.

Project Management

• Plan and manage multiple design projects simultaneously.
• Oversee timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure project success.

Design & Development

• Create detailed and complex mechanical designs using SolidWorks.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and design optimisation.

Technical Expertise & Compliance

• Stay current with industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices.
• Ensure all designs comply with ISO standards and relevant regulations.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate technical records and design documentation.
• Prepare progress reports and present project updates to senior stakeholders.

About You

Qualifications & Experience

• HNC/HND or higher in Mechanical Engineering (or related technical discipline).
• Proven experience in bespoke machine design and mechanical systems.
• Strong background in project management, from concept through to commissioning.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks (layouts, detailing, and dimensioning to ISO standards).
• Skilled in applying engineering calculations, simulations, and analysis to support design decisions.
