Overview

Lead Design Engineer - Airbus (Filton)
Location: Filton (minimum 60% onsite)
Hours: 35 per week, flexible working (4.5 days, between 7am-7pm)
Pay: £37.38/hr PAYE or £50.00/hr Umbrella (£52.00/hr for Authoriser level)
Clearance: BPSS+ (completed by Airbus Security)
IR35: Inside

What You'll Be Doing
  • Leading the structural design process, ensuring compliance with airworthiness and product requirements, and upholding Design Quality Assurance standards.
  • Defining, delivering, and enabling technical studies, trade-offs, and investigations to develop robust technical solutions using established design methods and procedures.
  • Managing and delivering change, including Mod opening, DFM release, and Stage 3 Closure of Mods-on time, to cost, and to quality.
  • Providing design leadership to both internal and external teams, championing Lean Engineering improvements such as 'Right First Time' and lead time reduction.
  • Organising and governing design and maturity reviews in line with Airbus policies, processes, and best practices.
What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Proven experience leading design or project teams, ideally within Airbus or a similar aerospace environment.
  • Strong track record of delivering complex or high-value projects to time, cost, and quality targets.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and the ability to manage risk and make informed decisions in a complex stakeholder environment.
  • Ability to influence technical experts and stakeholders to achieve optimal technical and business outcomes.
  • Experience maturing new technologies, implementing design-to-cost projects, and initiating strategic technology initiatives.
  • Proficiency with design toolsets such as CATIA V5, ICC, Zamiz, ECM, Solings, and PASS.
  • Industry-recognised design signatory delegation (Design Approval/Authorisation) is essential.
Desirable
  • Experience with Lean Engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with a collaborative approach.
