Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Lead Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join the LSS1 project team in Warrington. You will lead C&I engineering across all lifecycle stages, ensuring safe, compliant, and integrated solutions with a strong focus on leadership and governance.

We value Chartered Engineer status or progress toward it, and you will manage a skilled team of engineers and designers on a major nuclear project with opportunity for career growth.

Qualifications

• BEng/MEng in Control & Instrumentation Engineering or related field is required.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or near-term achievement is expected.
• Experience leading C&I engineering teams on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and delivery of C&I engineering solutions across project lifecycle.
• Oversee C&I activities to ensure safety, compliance, and fit for purpose.
• Act as discipline lead providing governance and direction to the project team.
• Coordinate a team of C&I engineers and designers for on-time delivery.
• Lead production, review and approval of C&I deliverables per standards.
• Oversee design and integration of control and instrumentation systems.

The Opportunity

Amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. We are looking to recruit high value expertise from across regulated and comparable sectors to work in a collaborative environment. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.

The Project

The Lightly Shielded Store 1 (LSS1) Project. LSS1 is a 7200m2 footprint major project new build on the Sellafield site. It will be a new class of Intermediate Level Waste store for Sellafield with a design life of 100 years. The project is heading towards Outline Business Case (OBC) gate and also undertaking Preliminary Design activities.

The Role

LSS1 now has an exciting opportunity to recruit a Lead Control & Instrumentation (C&I) Engineer to join the team in Warrington.

As a Lead C&I Engineer your responsibilities could include:

• Lead the development and delivery of Control & Instrumentation engineering solutions across all phases of the project lifecycle, from concept and detailed design through to commissioning and handover.
• Lead the delivery of all Control & Instrumentation engineering activities within the project, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, fit for purpose and delivered to requirements.
• Act as the discipline lead for C&I engineering, providing leadership, governance and strategic direction to the project team.
• Manage and coordinate a team of C&I engineers and designers, ensuring resources are effectively deployed to meet project objectives.
• Lead the production, review and approval of C&I engineering deliverables in accordance with project procedures, client requirements and applicable standards.
• Oversee the design and integration of control systems, instrumentation systems, functional safety systems, PLC-based systems and associated plant interfaces.
• Provide technical leadership to supply chain partners, reviewing supplier designs and ensuring compliance with project and client requirements.
• Ensure effective multidisciplinary integration with electrical, mechanical, process, civil, commissioning and construction teams through collaborative design reviews and BIM processes.

As a Lead C&I Engineer you will already have:

• BEng/MEng degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a relevant discipline, or demonstrable equivalent experience supported by an HNC/HND qualification.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or demonstrable ability to achieve Chartered status in the near term.
• Experience in leading C&I engineering teams and delivering complex engineering projects within Nuclear or other highly regulated industries.
• Demonstrable experience acting as a discipline lead for major engineering projects.
• Strong knowledge of control systems, instrumentation systems, functional safety principles and relevant industry standards.
