Overview

As a Lead Cloud Software Engineer at City IT, you will be creating tailored cloud solutions and tools that will empower our development teams to create the best possible experience for our customers. You’ll be part of a truly global team, working alongside a leadership counterpart in North America, to bring the enthusiasm, passion and drive to deliver the City Technology Strategy and a platform that enables the ambitious future growth of this business, as well as providing a fulfilling and consistent employee experience for our global teams. Being hands‑on and leading a team in the creation and maintenance of these solutions, you’ll be enhancing our productivity and platform capabilities in a way that will bring truly measurable value to the rest of the company.

Objectives
  • Lead with a drive to achieve and deliver value, instilling a culture of trust, empowerment, and innovation.
  • Actively contribute to team delivery, tooling, and technical capabilities.
  • Deliver and contribute to the City Technology Strategy.
  • Create and maintain custom SKDs, CDKs, authentication services and CLIs to enhance developer productivity and platform capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand their unique requirements and provide tailored cloud solutions to empower them to excel.
  • Establish, revise and encourage best development standards and practices.
  • Understand and anticipate team development needs, recommending relevant learning options.
  • Coach and support team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Proven leadership experience either as a line manager or technical lead.
  • Demonstrable experience of implementing team best practices, processes and tools for effective software delivery.
  • TypeScript.
  • AWS SDK / AWS CDK to develop stable, serverless‑first shared code and platforms.
  • Experience with a range of AWS services for a serverless‑first, microservices‑oriented architecture such as:
    • Compute: Lambda, ECS, Fargate.
    • Storage: S3, DynamoDB, RDS.
    • API Management: API Gateway, AppSync.
    • Orchestration: Step Functions, EventBridge.
    • Security: IAM, Cognito.
    • Networking: VPC, CloudFront, Route 53.
  • Git / GitLab.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with Service Management principles.
  • Experience with either Vue or React.
  • Experience with various authentication methods.
  • Familiarity with integrating and utilising AWS Bedrock Services.
  • Experience or interest in developing and utilising AI technologies.
  • Experience or interest in context‑specific data augmentation techniques for large language models.
