The ideal candidate will have strong skills in Kubernetes, CI/CD, and mentoring teams. Benefits include competitive pay, an excellent civil service pension, generous holiday package, and a flexible working environment.

We are looking for a Lead Infrastructure Engineer skilled in Kubernetes to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital.
We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge tech to build and maintain digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, every day and at key moments in their lives.
DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support and empower millions of people.
The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.
As a Lead Cloud Infrastructure Engineer at DWP Digital, your day will revolve around designing, building and running the cloud platforms that support some of the UK's most critical public services.
You’ll be working hands on with container platforms, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines and cloud‑native services, making sure our systems are secure, scalable and reliable.
You’ll spend time collaborating with other technical teams, helping application developers get the most out of our shared cloud infrastructure. You’ll be deep into Kubernetes, managing clusters and automating deployments with tools like Helm, Flux and ArgoCD. You’ll also be embedding security into everything you build, thinking ahead to mitigate risks before they become issues.
Part of your role will involve supporting live services, investigating and resolving issues and making sure our platforms stay healthy and performant. You’ll lead by example, mentoring junior engineers and helping shape the technical direction of the team.
You’ll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle or Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.
We work a hybrid model – you’ll spend some time working at home and some time collaborating face to face in a hub.
We offer competitive pay of up to £89,995.
You’ll get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth 28.97%, worth over £20,000 per year.
A generous leave package starting at 26 days rising to 31 days over time. You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi‑time. You’ll also get all the usual public holidays.
