Job summary

Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a senior Clinical Research Nurse Lead to drive the delivery of early phase dementia CTIMP/ATIMP trials. You will provide clinical leadership to the research nursing team and ensure high-quality, compliant trial delivery.

The role requires substantial NHS nursing experience, GCP certification, and a proven track record in mentorship, audits, and multi-disciplinary collaboration. Travel within the region and UK-wide may be required.

Qualifications

• Registered Adult or Mental Health Nurse (NMC).
• Current ICH-Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate or willingness to obtain.
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
• Minimum 5 years' post-registration nursing experience, including NHS experience.
• Experience working with people living with dementia or related conditions.
• Experience leading and training staff in clinical skills.
• Experience overseeing clinical standards across a team and leading audits.
• Competent in medication administration and sample collection.

Responsibilities

This role is funded by the NIHR funded UK Dementia Trials Network (UKDTN), supported as part of the Alzheimer's Society UKDTN Research Nurse Programme, and hosted by Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. The Alzheimer's Society UKDTN Lead Clinical Research Nurse is a senior clinical leadership role responsible for leading the delivery and development of early phase dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) CTIMP and ATIMP clinical trials. The post holder will lead the delivery of a high-quality early phase dementia clinical trials portfolio, ensuring compliance with ICH-Good Clinical Practice (GCP), UK Clinical Trial Regulations, the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, and local Research & Development requirements. They will provide clinical and operational leadership to the research nursing team, support workforce development through education and mentorship, and act as a clinical expert and ambassador for the Alzheimer's Society UKDTN Research Nurse Programme, promoting research as an integral part of the dementia care pathway. The post holder will contribute to regional and national research priorities, workforce development and UKDTN and Alzheimer's Society initiatives that may require travel within the local region and occasional UK-wide travel to support programme activities and network meetings.

• Experience working with people living with dementia, neurodegenerative conditions, psychiatry, mental health conditions or older adults.
• Demonstrable experience of training staff in clinical skills and formally assessing, documenting and signing off their competence against defined standards.
• Demonstrable experience of overseeing clinical standards across a team, including supervising and supporting junior staff, and leading clinical audit to monitor and improve quality.
• Competent in medication administration (oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous).
• Competent in venepuncture, cannulation, ECG recording and biological sample collection/processing., Master's level qualification or equivalent experience in healthcare or research.
• Additional clinical research qualifications.
• Experience supporting education or training of colleagues., Experience in clinical research delivery, preferably within dementia, neurodegeneration or related areas.
• Experience managing research studies, ensuring participant safety, quality and regulatory compliance., Experience in early phase dementia CTIMP, ATIMP or Phase I clinical trials.
• Experience undertaking cognitive assessments or dementia rating scales.
• Experience in dementia research and clinical assessments.
• Knowledge of the UK dementia research landscape and early phase clinical trial delivery.
• Public speaking & engagement, presentations or research promotion., Evidence of leadership training, qualification, or equivalent experience, relating to healthcare research.
• Experience managing research studies, ensuring participant safety, quality and regulatory compliance.
• Proven experience of line managing, motivating and developing a team.
• Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
• Ability to explain complex information clearly to participants, carers and colleagues.
• Ability to prioritise workload, work independently, maintain confidentiality and adapt to changing priorities.
