Job summary

NHS Lothian Pharmacy & Medicines Service in Edinburgh invites applications for a Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Critical Care and Surgical Services across NHS Lothian, with travel to multiple sites. This 1.0 WTE, 36-hour permanent post requires PVG disclosure and a strategic, clinical leadership role.

You will lead pharmacy services, set standards for safe practice, drive service redesign and medicines optimisation, and provide expert prescribing advice to senior clinical and operational leaders

Qualifications

• Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree or equivalent with registration as a pharmacist with the GPhC
• Postgraduate qualification in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent Master’s-level knowledge and experience
• An Independent Prescribing Qualification
• Postgraduate Clinical Pharmacy Diploma or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or demonstration of competence to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Core Advanced Curriculum

Responsibilities

• Providing strategic, professional and operational leadership for Critical Care and Surgical Services in pharmacy services across NHS Lothian.
• Setting, reviewing and assuring standards for safe, effective and evidence-based pharmacy practice.
• Leading service redesign, quality improvement, innovation and workforce transformation programmes.
• Supporting medicines optimisation and governance and the effective use of medicines including oversight of all medicines efficiency initiatives.
• Providing expert pharmaceutical and prescribing advice to senior clinical, operational and pharmacy leaders.
• Contributing to pharmacy strategy, service planning and wider organisational transformation initiatives.
• Maintaining a clinical role within one of the clinical specialties within this portfolio to support leadership and direct patient care.
• Contribute through direct involvement or supervision of research and development activities within the portfolio
