Lead CAD Closures Engineer
The CAD Engineer will bring proven module system design experience from concept through production. The role supports the Chief Engineer, Body & Closures across engineering BoM development, cost & weight pack management, DFMEA & DVP creation, and 3D/2D model generation.
Key Requirements
- CAD Operation – Experienced in creating and manipulating geometry for primary concept communication (90% time utilisation for geometry generation)
- Catia v5/v6 Proficiency – High technical competence in 3D geometry & sectional data generation for part design & geometric surface design
- Team Centre & PLM – Experience using TCUA (Team Centre) and PLM systems, with a preference for automotive sector delivery
- Engineering Experience – Delivery of designated module systems in automotive or similar industries, with evidence of issue management and cross‑functional teamwork
- Compliance & Process Improvement – Adherence to company procedures & quality standards, and proactive involvement in process improvements
- Motivation & Communication – Strong logical reasoning, numeracy & literacy, with organisational & communication skills, and a desire for high customer satisfaction
Main Activities
- Support day‑to‑day activities for the Chief Engineer, Body & Closures
- Engineering BoM development, cost/weight pack development and weight BoM management
- PMXU generation – Part identification in BoM for unique or carryover status
- DFMEA & DVP creation & maintenance
- Design surface (CAS) feasibility checks and feasibility advice & guidance
- Engineering hard‑point generation
- Cross‑functional integration reviews for components & systems, considering technical application, form, function & harmonisation of execution
- Develop timing plans and scope‑of‑work documents with key deliverables identified
- Drive closure of issues & establish cost, weight & timing impacts
- Support module deliverables through programme required gateway and development of engineering systems & quality systems
- Benchmarking of competitor vehicles & reporting of findings
- Support generation/development of design rules & guidelines and delivery of engineering project work for parent company & 3rd‑party customers
- Interface with cross‑functional teams (Package, Analysis, Manufacturing, DVA etc) to create right first‑time release
- Lead the development of 3D and 2D models for closure & mechanism engineering, storage and release data into TCUA and PLM
- Support automation in generation of CAD of Multi Model Link Networks (Driver Model Networks or AVA Networks – Associative Vehicle Architecture/ Advanced Vehicle Architecture) with set‑up demonstrations and roll‑out with APC engineering team
- Support generation & standardisation of kinematic models in Catia – set‑up demonstrations and roll‑out with engineering team
