Job summary

Bristol NHS Foundation Trust seeks a dedicated Biomedical Scientist to lead a section of the Bacteriology service. You will oversee quality, staff rotas, training, and liaise with clinicians to improve patient care.

The role requires HCPC registration, a Biomedical Sciences degree, and a postgraduate qualification equivalent to FIBMS, with UK microbiology laboratory experience and willingness to participate in out-of-hours and on-call duties.

Qualifications

• HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist.
• BSc Honours Degree in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
• Postgraduate qualification equivalent to Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS) or equivalent experience.
• Experience in a UK Microbiology laboratory.
• Experience managing a section and advising clinicians to improve patient management.
• Willingness to participate in out-of-hours and on-call service.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily staff rotas for work allocation and training for staff, students and support staff.
• Train and demonstrate methodologies on complex analytical equipment to medical staff and students.
• Maintain quality management systems and ensure UKAS accreditation compliance.
• Monitor quality through internal and external QA schemes (ISO 15189:2022).
• Provide leadership to empower the team in a busy departmental environment.
• Support delivery of high-quality, safe healthcare services.
