Holiday Extras in Newingreen, Kent is seeking a hands-on technical leader for a small team of engineers. You will combine deep backend expertise with people leadership, setting a high bar for quality while empowering the team to grow.

You’ll guide a mixed team of full‑stack engineers, pivot towards stronger backend capabilities, upskill the group, define technical standards, and champion AI-driven tooling to raise velocity and code quality.

Qualifications

• Extensive backend experience with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Experience leading engineers and mentoring growth.
• Ability to own technical direction within a domain and balance constraints.

Responsibilities

• Lead and line manage a small team of engineers, overseeing development, wellbeing and performance
• Define and champion best practices for Node.js and TypeScript backend development
• Set the technical direction for your team and domain, balancing innovation with pragmatism
• Be the go-to expert for the business functionality within your domain
• Collaborate with Product, Delivery, Commercial and Data teams, plus partners
• Drive a culture of technical excellence, coaching engineers and enabling growth
• Champion AI tools and automation to raise productivity and code quality
• Represent your team's work in stakeholder demos and updates
• Balance delivery pace with long-term sustainability and manage technical debt
• Dedicate 10% of time to learning and development
