Job summary

Oliver Bernard, partnered with a multinational organisation, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to shape technical strategy and lead a back-end focused team delivering scalable APIs.

You will mentor 3-5 engineers and drive architectural decisions across product squads, ensuring robust, cloud-native solutions and modern engineering practices across a remote-first, flexible environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software development with a strong backend focus in Python.
• Experience designing and scaling distributed systems and production APIs.
• Strong understanding of cloud architecture, containerisation and modern engineering practices.
• Previous technical leadership experience, including mentoring and managing engineers.
• Ability to balance technical excellence with product and business objectives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable backend services and APIs.
• Set technical direction across product teams.
• Drive architectural decisions, engineering standards, and platform improvements.
• Mentor and line manage 3-5 engineers, supporting their growth.
• Partner with Product and Delivery teams from discovery through to production.
• Champion engineering best practices, reliability, and continuous improvement.
