Job description

Role Purpose

The purpose of this role is to assess and verify clients’ management systems and operational practices against ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 requirements. Working across a broad range of industry sectors, the Auditor applies strong technical and sector‑specific knowledge to evaluate organisational performance in quality management, environmental management, and occupational health and safety. By gaining a detailed understanding of each client’s processes, the Auditor conducts rigorous, impartial audits to determine conformity, identify risks, and highlight opportunities for improvement. Through these activities, the role supports clients in enhancing operational effectiveness, strengthening governance, reducing environmental impacts, and improving workplace health and safety outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage end‑to‑end certification audits against ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, ensuring full compliance with accreditation requirements, scheme rules, and LRQA procedures.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct audit activities, including managing audit teams where required, ensuring consistency, technical robustness, and effective evidence gathering.
  • Conduct professional opening and closing meetings, clearly explaining audit scope, methodology, team roles, findings, and the basis for conclusions and recommendations.
  • Produce high‑quality audit reports that are clear, comprehensive, and aligned with accreditation and scheme expectations—providing well‑evidenced findings, root‑cause insight, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Undertake both onsite and remote audits, applying advanced audit techniques and digital tools to maintain the highest level of technical credibility and audit integrity.
  • Make authoritative certification, continuation, suspension, or recommendation decisions in line with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and relevant certification schemes such as BRCGS or FSSC (where applicable).
  • Act as a trusted technical partner for clients, building strong, long‑term relationships, understanding their operational context, and identifying value‑added opportunities and potential business growth.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to colleagues, sharing best practice and contributing to auditor development and continuous improvement of assessment processes.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple audits, meet deadlines, and support operational KPIs.
  • Commitment to continuing professional development, maintaining auditor competence and sector‑specific knowledge.
Technical/Professional Requirements
  • Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook and Microsoft Teams (essential).
  • Relevant degree, HND, or equivalent technical qualification in engineering, manufacturing, environmental science, occupational health & safety, or a related discipline.
  • Currently in a Quality / Environmental, H&S or Technical role within industry.
  • Demonstrable experience across relevant industry sectors (e.g., manufacturing, engineering, logistics, services, utilities, public sector).
  • ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 Lead Auditor status would be preferred but not essential.
  • Able to travel to client sites as required. Full, clean driving licence (where applicable).
