Job summary

RSSB is seeking a Lead Auditor to advance auditing expertise and help keep Britain's railways safe and efficient. This home-based role includes travel across Kent, Harrogate, Newcastle and surrounding areas, with flexibility and strong career development opportunities.

You’ll conduct audits, prepare risk-based reports, and ensure compliance with rail industry standards while collaborating with stakeholders and deputising for the Senior Lead Auditor when needed.

Qualifications

• IRCA-accredited or health and safety qualifications preferred.
• Experience auditing against defined standards.
• Rail sector experience is beneficial; willing to develop rail knowledge.
• Proficient with IT including MS applications.
• Able to build professional relationships with stakeholders.
• Strong communication and adaptability in changing environments.
• Customer service focus with accountability.

Responsibilities

• Perform audits and assess competency, capability and capacity of entities and services.
• Prepare reports and conduct risk management to improve safety and compliance.
• Audit suppliers registering to RSSB via RISQS.
• Examine records and procedures to ensure adherence to standards.
• Undertake remote and site audits with planning and closeout.
• Contribute to final audit reports and improvement recommendations.
• Communicate findings to auditees and stakeholders; support team goals.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

As our Lead Auditor, you will:

• Perform audits and analyse the competency, capability and capacity of an entity and its employees’ services and products.
• Prepare reports and perform risk management tasks to protect, improve safety, efficiency and ensure compliance with appropriate standards and regulations.
• Be responsible for undertaking audits on suppliers registering to provide services through RSSB using the Rail Industry Supplier Qualification System (RISQS).
• Ensure compliance with scheme procedures by examining records, reports, operating practices, and documentation and adherence to business procedures.
• Undertake remote and client site-based audits through planning, opening, carrying out and closing audit procedures and protocols
• Prepare or contribute to a final audit report, including making recommendations for improvements to systems and/or processes.
• Communicate with a range of stakeholder levels including management to understand the business and their needs and to share audit findings by preparing a final report, discussing findings with auditees.
• Contribute to team goals and occasionally deputise for the Senior Lead Auditor

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

As the specific geographical coverage for this role is based in Kent, Harrogate or Newcastle, and the Lead Auditor will be expected to travel to cover audits nationwide, candidates will need to be based in the Kent, Harrogate or Newcastle or the surrounding areas.

• Experience in auditing against defined standards
• NEBOSH General Certificate or IOSH Technical or equivalent.
• Rail experience is great—but if you’re new to rail, as long as you have a willing to develop knowledge in this industry - we’ll help you.
• Proficient with IT, including MS applications.
• Able to build effective professional relationships with stakeholders
• Able to communicate effectively and share thoughts and ideas through methods appropriate to the audience.
• You’ll be adaptable and will respond effectively when embracing new opportunities, change and in navigating uncertainty.
• You’ll take responsibility and demonstrate accountability in completing tasks and achieving objectives, actively seeking to resolve problems and identify opportunities.
• You’ll be committed to customer service and placing customer satisfaction at the heart of our success to ensure we deliver against our shared goals.
