Job description

This is an 8-month filmmaking project that will use a range of art forms to develop the confidence, skills and well-being of approximately 15 care experienced young people aged 8 – 16 years.

The focus of the project will be on making a short film through a series of weekly sessions. The young people will work with the lead artists to identify and explore themes and create a plan of work. Additional artists will be engaged by the lead practitioners to work with the young people and enhance the project as required and could include musicians, voice over artists, makeup artists etc. We are keen that the participants are given a broad range of experiences and opportunities throughout their period of engagement. The project will culminate in a screening of the film created at a date to be determined in June.

Aims of the project
  • Improve long‑term opportunities for this group of young people – using arts as a way to improve their confidence, life aspirations, literacy and social skills.
  • Enable them to develop and explore their creative talents.
  • Give group members the opportunity to take part in a range of creative activities.
  • Promote community integration.
  • Promote a collaborative ethos within group, develop a positive group dynamic and help group members provide mutual support.
  • Create a new piece of work which can be showcased to a wider audience.
Time Frame & Location

The project will run from December 2025 – July 2026 and there will be at least one short film produced over this period. The initial programme of weekly two‑hour workshops will begin in December 2025 and will normally be on a Thursday evening 6–8pm. Most of the activity will be based at Meadowbank Library, Polmont.

Applicants should have a strong track record in their own practice of filmmaking, and experience of working within a community setting. We are keen to find practitioners who can create the right dynamic with a group of potentially disengaged young people aged 8–16.

Each artist will be engaged and paid a fixed fee of £2500.00 for the project. This includes travel, preparation, hands on delivery, attendance at the screening and evaluation of the project with a final report.

Lead Artist Application
  • A CV and covering letter stating why they are interested in working on this project.
  • A summary of their experience to date and any links to their recent work.
  • An outline of their initial thoughts around the approach they would take to ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Details of two references.

Joint applications or applications from companies/organisations are welcome.
