Join Our Team as a Lead Applications Engineer

About the Role

As Lead Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for key systems in the Application function in our Platforms and Infrastructure team in Digital Services. You will lead and manage a specialised Applications team, ensuring the availability of Digital systems and solutions that meet the evolving needs of the council.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the Applications Team to meet service priorities and lead an effective service responsive to the needs of the organisation.
  • Research and evaluate opportunities, innovate, and utilise new IT systems and services and work with the business to transform working practices, promote best practice and ensure value for money.
  • Manage and evaluate the effectiveness of the delivery of services in the Applications Service area and develop high performing services through the promotion of continuous improvement and development.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with senior managers across the council and with external organisations, partners, and suppliers to ensure effective and efficient IT service delivery.
  • Ensure best practice processes and procedures are being documented, followed, and shared within the Applications function to ensure consistency, reliability, security and that the systems support the business requirements of the service departments.
  • Work closely with departments in the Council and other IT stakeholders to establish requirements for routine planned and project work, reviewing requirements for activities and ensure knowledge transfer throughout the Applications function.

  • Proven ability to successfully managing a team of Applications Engineers in a large, complex organisation.
  • Experience of providing an expert technical knowledge reference point for the Applications function.
  • Skills in incident, problem, change, and continual service improvement management.
  • Proven ability to promote a high-performance culture within an Applications Management Service area through collaborative working across IT service areas and council departments
