Job summary

Merlin Entertainments’ Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Cornwall seeks an Animal Care Supervisor on a fixed-term 12-month contract to uphold high standards of care and staff performance.

You’ll lead the animal care team, assist with training, ensure demonstrations and feeding displays run on schedule, maintain enclosures and records, and oversee pup rescue season activities and seal hospital duties. Expect weekend and bank holiday work, plus emergency rosters.

Qualifications

• Understanding of animal health, husbandry, training and behaviour.
• Proven experience leading operational teams.
• Experience developing training plans for a collection and shaping new husbandry behaviours.
• Experience with animals with specific needs such as blindness or age-related requirements.
• Pinniped rehabilitation experience and filtration/plant maintenance desirable.
• Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Marine Biology, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage animal care staff and assist the Curator with training.
• Ensure demonstrations and feeding displays are delivered on time and engaging.
• Oversee daily husbandry and enrichment training and maintain records.
• Maintain enclosure cleanliness, plant systems, and water filtration upkeep.
• Maintain daily husbandry records for pools and exhibits.
