An integrated healthcare provider in London seeks a Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Cancer and Oncology to ensure excellence in patient care, manage clinical services, and contribute to the development of nursing practices. The role requires leadership skills, advanced clinical expertise, and significant experience in acute medical settings. Offering a salary of £64,455 to £74,896 per annum, with full-time and flexible working options.
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the cancer and oncology department for a substantive Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Oncology/ Consultant Practitioner.
The role will support the wards/units, nursing staff, and trainee/qualified ACPs to promote excellence in care to maintain and improve clinical standards and support the flow of patients across the directorate. The post holder will ensure that all patients are treated with compassion, dignity and respect placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond. He/she will promote best practice in the prevention of infection through ensuring a clean and safe environment, and that clinical practices are in accordance with Trust policy and best practice guidelines to minimise the risk of infection.
The role will ensure that the patient experience is of the highest quality, inspiring patient and public confidence. This will be achieved through high visibility, accessibility, and surveillance.
The post holder will be expected to work clinically for an agreed 20% to 50% of their time, and where required will be a specialist in their clinical area. There is a requirement of the postholder to work across both QEH site and UHL, however mainly at the UHL site as the base site
The role will report directly to the Head of Nursing, who has overarching responsibility for the operational management and strategic direction of nursing.
The post holder will be expected to lead the services, ensuring an effective and safe service aligned with the recommended guidelines. Support the ACP in the daily management and auditing processes and interact frequently with external and internal stakeholders. They will play a lead role in service development within the designated area, across the Trust and community.
The Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner will exercise a high degree of personal professional autonomy and make clinical judgements of the highest order to satisfy the job's expectations and demands.
The post holder will provide key clinical management in the facilitation and expansion of the cancer and oncology service. And will be responsible for the contribution to nursing policy and clinical service development within cancer and oncology service in line with the Trust's strategic.
The post holder will provide cross-cover with the Lead ACP Haematology /Consultant Practitioner

1. Clinical
To deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients attending the Oncology Department or ED.
Provide a level of advanced and comprehensive nursing assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge
Direct responsibility for the management of patients within own case load and supervision/development of junior members of the multidisciplinary team.
To appropriately assess, examine, investigate, diagnose and treat patients, resulting in the safe management and appropriate referral or discharge of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed presentations.
Order & interpret investigations, laboratory tests, x-rays and act on results as appropriate, with supervision as required, as a trainee
Initiate drug therapy/medication within the parameters of agreed clinical guidelines and in accordance with present legislation, supply and prescribing of medicines in line with non-medical prescribing qualifications.
To contribute to the development and improvement of systems and processes that facilitates patient flow.
Maintain own clinical development by keeping abreast of new treatments and technologies within emergency and unscheduled care.
To improve the quality of the patient experience by identifying and meeting the individual clinical needs of patients.
To rigorously review all aspects of the patients plan of care and identify and address issues that may result in substandard service.
Contribute to the review and development of integrated care pathways and clinical guidelines to ensure a standardised approach to emergency care.
Practice with confidence and competence within professional Guidelines (E.g. NMC, HCPC).
To ensure that accurate documentation and records of patient care are kept.
To provide specialist advice on patient care to the healthcare team, taking into account for all aspects of clinical governance, and act as a specialist resource within the AOS, other assessment areas and the Trust.
To lead the implementation and development of assessment systems, processes and tools within the AOS and adjacent clinical/assessment areas.
Ability to adapt specialist clinical knowledge and skills to different clinical settings and influence service delivery and patient care.
Actively implement effective systems and processes for infection control
management and relevant audit within their clinical area.
Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.
Communicate patients conditions verbally and in writing to other members of the health care team and contribute to the decision-making processes in patient management. Acting as an advocate for patients and colleagues.
Ensure awareness of sources of support and guidance e.g., patient liaison service, and provide information in an accurate format to all patients.
Be able to anticipate barriers to effective communication and take action to improve communication.
2. Quality and Development
Lead and develop an area of responsibility related to advanced clinical practice.
To coordinate and provide leadership for the Advanced Clinical Practitioner Team.
Participate in the development of a specialist service and act as a change agent, where necessary leading staff and facilitating the change process whilst encouraging others to be innovative and adaptable in the approach to change.
To develop evidence-based policies and procedures specifically required by the team.
To develop clinical competencies for staff working within the team.
To develop and maintain effective communication with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high standards of care.
To work collaboratively and strategically with representatives of other clinical areas, disciplines and services to provide a seamless pathway of care.
Participate in the recruitment, selection and retention of staff.
To be conversant with all Trust policies and procedures and ensure they are correctly implemente
To represent the Trust on National AOS Forums related to Advanced Clinical Practice.
Adhere to confidentiality at all times with sensitive personal data
Prioritise, organise and manage own workload in a manner that maintains and promotes quality.
Participate in business planning and the development of financial bids for service development.
Use a structured framework to manage, review and identify learning from patients complaints, clinical incidents and near misses.
3. Education and Training
To help identify, plan and implement goals for clinical development of staff working within the AOS and adjacent assessment areas, monitor the development of advanced nursing skills within the team.
To develop and maintain a positive learning environment for the emergency care team by providing support, ensuring developmental requirements are addressed.
To assist in the provision of clinical supervision and provide the opportunity to reflect and discuss areas of practice.
To ensure all members of the team have an annual appraisal and personal development plan.
To plan, implement and participate in teaching programmes for nursing, medical and allied health professional staff of all grades in the care of patients with minor a major injuries/ illnesses.
To provide in service training to staff from a number of disciplines working within the emergency care team.
To maintain close links with local Universities and to participate in the development and delivery of new and established specialist practice programmes.
To exhibit a personal commitment to clinical education and development and successfully complete the ACP Development Programme.
Peer review of the performance of the advanced nurse practitioner team, providing feedback as appropriate.
Work together with the advanced nurse practitioner team to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to ensure a quality service that meets the demands of the emergency department service and patient
Supports and participates in shared learning across the emergency services directorate and wider organisation.
4. Audit and Research
Contribute and at times lead the development of multidisciplinary research and clinical audit in the AOS and adjacent assessment areas, implementing effecti and evidence based practice.
Exhibit advanced research skills and provide support and appropriate implementation strategies for changes in clinical practice.
Conduct audit to evaluate the advanced clinical practitioner team and any strategies that have been implemented and disseminate results within the Trust, locally and nationally.
Participate and contribute to any ongoing regional and national research to evaluate the effectiveness of care strategies related to the patient experience within emergency and unscheduled care.
As an expert practitioner evaluates the quality of patient care and ensures that the results of evaluation are used to sustain or improve quality of patient care
Format and process data in relation to rapid assessment team activity and provide qualitative and quantitative information for other directorates and the Trust management team.
Ensure the results of audit and research conducted by the team are disseminated at the local, regional and national levels.
To share best practices through publications and attendance/presentation opportunities at the conference level.
5. Resource Management
To apply sound financial evaluation to proposed service developments.
Maintain accurate records in relation to equipment used and maintained by the AOS team
To ensure that systems are in place to manage, reduce and prevent clinical risk to self and others within the emergency department.
To monitor incidents highlighted by members of the emergency team and communicate to appropriate areas to address risk issues.
Promote best practice in health & safety, utilising unit and Trust policies.
