Job summary

Wolviston Management Services Ltd on behalf of a leading technology and advanced manufacturing organisation is seeking an MMIC Layout Engineer in Newton Aycliffe, Co Durham. You will join a highly skilled design team to generate, verify and release IC layouts and mask reticle designs throughout the design lifecycle.

You will collaborate with customers, engineers and suppliers, ensuring designs meet internal procedures, quality standards and delivery deadlines, while applying CAD tools such as

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in a Science or Engineering discipline.
• Minimum two years' experience in electronic or electrical engineering.
• Experience with CAD layout software such as KLayout, L-Edit or Nazca Design.
• Strong literacy, numeracy and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Ability to analyse and resolve complex spatial layout challenges logically and accurately.
• Excellent communication skills across technical teams and customers.

Responsibilities

• Create and develop IC layouts and reticle designs from initial concept through to final release.
• Provide technical layout support to engineering teams and customers.
• Ensure all designs comply with internal mask set release procedures and quality standards.
• Prepare documentation for critical design reviews and mask release reviews.
• Generate mask order documentation and supporting design records.
• Maintain mask documentation, reticle records, and design data archives.
• Collaborate effectively with customers, engineers, programme managers, and external suppliers to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and within agreed timescales.
• Participate in design and mask release review activities, providing technical expertise and recommendations where required.

We are recruiting for an MMIC Layout Engineer Wolviston Management Services is supporting a leading technology and advanced manufacturing organisation in the recruitment of an experienced MMIC Layout Engineer.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team, supporting the development of integrated circuit (IC) and mask reticle designs for both internal stakeholders and external customers. The role offers exposure to cutting-edge semiconductor technologies and provides the chance to work collaboratively with engineers, programme managers, customers, and manufacturing partners throughout the design lifecycle.

The Role As an MMIC Layout Engineer, you will provide technical expertise in the generation, verification, and release of integrated circuit layouts and mask reticle designs. Working within the Design Services team, you will ensure all layouts comply with internal design and release procedures while supporting the successful delivery of customer and business objectives.

You will play a key role in managing the design process from initial concept through to mask release, liaising with customers, engineers, programme managers, and external mask manufacturers to deliver high-quality solutions on time and to specification.

About You

We are looking for a detail-oriented engineering professional with strong CAD layout experience and the ability to work within a technically demanding environment.

Essential Requirements

• HNC/HND qualification in a Science or Engineering discipline.
• Minimum two years' experience within an electronic or electrical engineering environment.
• Experience using engineering CAD layout software such as KLayout, L-Edit, Nazca Design, or similar packages.
• Strong literacy, numeracy, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
• Ability to analyse and resolve complex spatial layout challenges logically and accurately.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across technical teams and customer groups.

Desirable Requirements

• Experience in PCB or integrated circuit layout design.
• Knowledge of IC technologies, multi-layer PCB technologies, and Process Design Kits (PDKs).
• HNC/HND in Physics, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, CAD, or CAE.
