Lawyer - Social Care & Education

Location: London Road, SM4 5DX
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 4+ Month
Working Hours: Mon Fri, 09 00, 37 Hours per week
Pay Rate: £40.16 per hour

Job Responsibilities
  • Provide high-quality legal advice in various areas like children's and adults' social care, education, and more.
  • Handle a large caseload of complex matters and draft necessary legal documents.
  • Offer creative legal solutions to support service changes and client needs.
  • Represent the service's interests within the council and with external clients.
  • Support and supervise junior staff, and deputize for senior legal roles when needed.
  • Advise elected members and senior managers on legal issues.
  • Prepare for and attend court, arbitration, or mediation as needed.
  • Maintain and improve client relationships.
  • Keep clients informed of new legislation and provide training if necessary.
  • Negotiate with solicitors and other professionals on behalf of the authorities.
Person Specifications
  • Must Have:
    • Qualified solicitor, barrister, or chartered legal executive with local government experience.
    • Good knowledge of relevant legislation and decision-making processes.
    • Strong analytical legal skills.
    • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to client needs.
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Commitment to the Shared Legal Service principles.
  • Nice to Have:
    • Ability to travel to client offices or courts as needed.
    • Experience in managing and developing staff.
    • Willingness to attend out-of-hours meetings or emergencies.
    • Performance-oriented with effective management skills.
