Job summary

Cheshire East Council’s Legal Services Team is recruiting Lawyers and Senior Lawyers to join the Childcare legal team. You will provide legal and procedural advice to support the Council and its services, including advocacy where needed.

The roles are varied and you will work within a close-knit, supportive team, with opportunities to develop your career in an inclusive Authority that values positive outcomes for client departments and communities.

Qualifications

  • Admitted Solicitor with current practising certificate (or Barrister/Legal Executive equivalent).
  • In-depth knowledge of childcare law relevant to the role.
  • Ability to conduct childcare work under limited supervision.

  • Conduct childcare proceedings and/or pre-proceedings for the Council.
  • Provide advocacy support when required.
  • Deliver accurate legal advice to client departments.

A number of exciting opportunities have arisen within Cheshire East’s Legal Services Team for Lawyers & Senior Lawyers within our Childcare legal team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking Lawyers to join our Childcare legal team.

The roles provides legal and procedural advice and support to our client department, in the most effective and efficient way to meet the requirements of the Council as a whole and specific Services and Departments.

These roles provide support to the Principal Lawyers, including but not limited to, conducting Childcare proceedings, and/ or pre-proceedings on behalf of the Council, including advocacy. These roles are diverse and no two days are the same.

We are a close-knit supportive team, working hard towards positive outcomes for our client departments. Caseloads are monitored & supported, and there is a varied range & nature of work available. You will also be encouraged to build on your career goals, in a forward thinking, inclusive Authority.

ABOUT YOU

You will;

  • Admitted Solicitor entitled to a current practising certificate (or the qualification of Barrister or Legal Executive), or an appropriate level of technical expertise and experience within the relevant field equivalent to the aforementioned formal qualifications
  • In depth knowledge of specialist field of law commensurate with the role
  • Have conduct of a range of legal work under minimum supervision.
  • Be able to represent the Council, with a willingness to undertake advocacy, which will be supported by training to enhance your skills.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of the law and have good oral and written communication skills as well as demonstrable skills in negotiation, drafting, and persuading.
  • Demonstrate a proven track record and working to deadlines.
  • A desire to develop your legal skills & to progress in your legal career.
  • Ability to work confidently & effectively either alone or as part of a team.
