Job summary

MARS Recruitment is seeking a Laser Applications Engineer for Didcot. The role involves developing laser micromachining processes for customers and executing production work while operating state-of-the-art laser systems spanning UV to IR wavelengths with femtosecond to nanosecond pulse durations.

The ideal candidate has a degree in Lasers/Optical Engineering/Physics or Engineering with practical experience, plus knowledge of laser systems, metrology, and programming.

Qualifications

• Degree or MSc in Lasers, Optical Engineering, Physics or Engineering with practical experience.
• Experience with laser micromachining or laser applications is advantageous.
• Knowledge of laser micromachining, integration/testing of complex laser systems, machine control software or programming, materials science, metrology and optical systems.
• Strong IT skills and hands-on laboratory capability; industrial experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop laser micromachining processes for customers and run production work.
• Work with state-of-the-art laser systems (UV to IR, femtosecond to ns pulses) and advanced motion control.
• Collaborate with customers to implement and validate micromachining processes.
• Support laboratory testing and optimization of laser systems.

Laser Applications Engineer | Didcot | £30,000pa - £41,000pa plus benefits:

An amazing opportunity has arisen for a Lasers, Optical Engineering or Physics graduate or someone who has two plus years of industry experience, and a keen interest and passion for Lasers and Optical Engineering technology. Originally a University of Oxford spinout, our client has become a world-leader in the design and manufacture of complete laser micro-machining systems, subcontract laser micromachining and additional services. Due to growth within their Laser Applications team, they are looking to recruit a graduate Laser Applications Engineer with a couple of years experience. On a day-to-day basis the Laser Applications Engineer will join a high performing Laboratory team. In this varied role, you will be developing laser micromachining processes for customers as well as running production work for them. You will be working with our state-of-the-art laser systems which have wavelengths from the UV

to the IR and pulse durations of femtosecond, picosecond and nanosecond as well as advanced motion control systems. You will need to be a hands-on and highly skilled scientist.

The successful Laser Applications Engineer will need the following experience and skills:

• Good degree or MSc in Lasers or Optical Engineering or Physics or Engineering or similar qualification plus equivalent practical experience
• Practical laser applications, especially micromachining is advantageous
• Some knowledge of the following - Laser micro-machining - Integration and test of complex laser systems - Machine control software or programming - Materials science - Metrology, microscopes, SEMs etc - Optical systems
• Good computer and IT skills
• Industrial experience preferred
