Laser Applications Engineer – Ultrafast Lasers

If you’re motivated by hands‑on work with ultrafast laser systems and want real influence over how high‑performance photonic technology is developed and deployed, this is an opportunity to step into a senior, technically driven role within a specialist laser engineering business.

You’ll play a central role in shaping next‑generation photonic processing platforms, combining deep experimental work with system‑level responsibility from early‑stage R&D through to robust product delivery. This is a senior technical position with genuine ownership, suited to someone comfortable guiding complex engineering work from concept through implementation.

Working closely with ultrafast laser sources, precision motion systems, adaptive optics, and vision‑based feedback, you’ll deliver stable, high‑accuracy performance in demanding environments.

Essential experience
  • Strong practical background with ultrafast or femtosecond laser systems
  • Hands‑on experience in photonics, precision instrumentation, or optical system integration
  • Experience working with suppliers, customers, or cross‑functional engineering teams
Desirable background
  • PhD or MSc in physics, optics, or a related discipline
  • Experience with precision motion control, adaptive optics, or machine‑vision‑enabled systems
  • Exposure to photonic device fabrication, fibre or waveguide technologies, or high‑accuracy metrology

Location: Oxford‑based, hands‑on role with some flexibility

Salary: Up to ~£60K depending on experience
