Job Specification: External Contracts Manager (Landscaping & Technical) Role Summary We are seeking a proactive and disciplined External Contracts Manager to lead the landscaping and winter services across the Toyota Motor Manufacturing site in Burnaston, Derby. This role involves managing a small internal team and coordinating external contractors for technical services. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering a high‑quality, well‑planned service that meets site standards and supports production readiness year‑round.

Landscaping Management
  • Lead a team of 3 landscapers to deliver scheduled maintenance across meadows, grassed areas, and site perimeter zones.
  • Ensure weed control, seasonal planting, and general grounds upkeep are completed to specification.
  • Maintain and improve service quality through structured planning and performance tracking.
  • Support Toyota's environmental goals by managing green spaces that encourage biodiversity, including wildflower planting and habitat creation.
Winter Services
  • Oversee gritting and snow clearance operations to ensure the site is safe and ready for production start.
  • Coordinate salt bin maintenance and pre‑season readiness checks.
  • Be available for early morning starts (between 12am and 4am) during winter months to supervise snow clearance and confirm gritting effectiveness.
Contractor Oversight
  • Manage external contractors for: Street lighting repairs and upgrades, Pop hole and surface damage remediation, Drainage system maintenance.
  • Ensure contractor activities are compliant, documented, and aligned with site safety protocols.
Planning & Execution
  • Develop and maintain a robust operational plan for landscaping and contractor tasks.
  • Ensure consistent execution and address historical challenges around sticking to the plan.
Performance & Reporting
  • Monitor KPIs and contribute to monthly service reports.
  • Provide updates to stakeholders and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Health & Safety
  • Lead and manage Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) across all landscaping and contractor activities.
  • Demonstrate strong health and safety experience, ensuring all operatives are trained and risks are effectively mitigated.
Working Hours & Flexibility
  • This role requires flexible working across 5 days out of 7, especially during spring and summer months.
  • During winter, the role includes early morning starts (12am‑4am) to ensure the site is safe and operational before production begins.
