Job summary

National Trust is seeking a Land Use and Stewardship Delivery Partner for an 18‑month fixed-term contract across the 8 Hills area, coordinating with Bournville Village Trust. The role involves developing a shared vision, stakeholder engagement, and delivering nature-positive land-use plans with on-site and remote work patterns.

The role requires experience in land use, ecology collaboration, and financial modelling, with travel across the project region and 40–60% on-site activity.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of environmental issues, habitats and nature recovery is essential.
• Ability to build or interrogate site-level financial models and understand grant interactions.
• Experience managing staged and gated change programmes.
• Ability to translate ambitious goals into practical, high-impact plans with stakeholders.
• Proven collaboration across organisational boundaries to deliver outcomes.

Job description

We’re looking for a Land Use and Stewardship Delivery Partner to join us on an 18-month fixed term contract, leading a jointly owned programme of land use change across parts of the proposed 8 Hills Regional Park in the Bromsgrove district, south of Birmingham.

You’ll be joining at an exciting time, as our ambitious new strategy “People and Nature Thriving” sets out how we will restore nature at scale to create 250,000 hectares of nature-rich habitats within and beyond the National Trust landholdings by 2035. Much of this work will be through working in collaboration with other landowners. This is a partnership role with Bournville Village Trust who are funding the position, and will have a focus on their land holding, which sits within the 8 Hills area. You’ll bring to life both organisations’ shared ambitions for these landscapes.

What it’s like to work here

You’ll work within the National Trust’s Restore Nature Specialist Delivery Team, with a variety of regional colleagues, property teams and partners to achieve the project goals. You’ll also have a named lead at Bournville Village Trust, with accountability to both organisations for your programme of work.

This is a visible role, combining site visits with flexible working. You’ll work across the 8 Hills area as part of the project team, located between the National Trust office at Hagley and Bournville Village Trust office.

With hybrid working, your time will be a combination of working at the office, being out and about on site, and working from home. You’ll have a dynamic working week and will need to travel throughout the area for meetings. We’lltalk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust or Bournville Village Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll lead the staged BVT land use programme at Chadwich and Groveley, developing a shared vision, grading land assets, creating long-term land use plans and supporting early delivery. You’ll provide technical land use expertise to help identify opportunities for nature-rich habitats, sustainable farming systems and integrated public access, while building an understanding of the financial implications of future land use options.

You’ll commission and manage ecological assessments and monitoring, build trusted relationships with tenant farmers, and provide advice on Agri-environment and woodland schemes. You’ll also support the wider 8 Hills programme by sharing learning across the landscape and working collaboratively across both organisations to deliver a shared programme of work, review progress and maintain stakeholder engagement.

• Skilled at working collaboratively across organisational boundaries, bringing together partners, colleagues and different perspectives to develop solutions and deliver outcomes
• Ability to effectively communicate at all levels, internally and externally
• Confidence in independently developing work Programmes across several objectives at once
