Land Based Engineering Study Programme Manager

Location: Bicton College

  • Salary: £45,000 per annum (includes Market Premium), plus relocation package
  • Terms & Conditions: Full Time (37 hours per week/52 weeks per year), Teaching Contract

About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Agricultural Engineer to join our highly skilled Land-Based Engineering team as a Study Programme Manager. This is a rewarding opportunity to shape the future of our learners, nurture emerging technical talent, and share your passion for industry-grade machinery and engineering excellence.

As Study Programme Manager, you will play a key part in delivering and coordinating our Land-Based Engineering curriculum. Your daily work will help students gain the skills, confidence, and industry readiness to thrive in the agricultural, plant, and broader mechanical engineering sectors.

Responsibilities
  • Teach and inspire learners through practical and theory sessions across land-based engineering disciplines
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons, learning resources, and assessments
  • Support students to build robust skills in engineering practice, diagnostics, and machinery operation
  • Help students strengthen core skills in English and maths through applied tasks
  • Develop high-quality learning materials
  • Monitor learner progress, providing meaningful feedback and intervention where needed
  • Champion employability, ensuring industry relevance across all programmes
  • Promote the programme through recruitment events, open evenings, and marketing initiatives
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including assessment records and schemes of work
Typical Week
  • Demonstrate safe servicing of tractors, ATVs, or plant machinery in the workshop
  • Lead practical sessions on systems such as engines, transmissions, hydraulics, or electrics
  • Deliver classroom-based lessons on diagnostics, or mechanical principles
  • Support students individually to prepare for assessment or employment
  • Liaise with employers to strengthen vocational experience routes
  • Review student progress records and identify strategies for achievement
  • Coordinate study programme activities and course organisation
  • Assist with interview evenings, open days, or community events
  • Update teaching plans, learning materials, and workshop resources
  • Engage in professional development to stay current with industry and teaching practice
Skills & Experience
Essential
  • Level 3 qualification (or higher) in an engineering-related subject
  • Practical experience with agricultural and/or plant machinery
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
Desirable
  • Level 4/5+ qualification, or equivalent time-served experience
  • Teaching or training experience (formal teaching qualification welcomed but not essential)

If you haven't taught before don't worry. If you can demonstrate training or mentoring in industry and a passion for developing others, we will support you to grow into the role.
