Job summary

Frimley Park Hospital is seeking a midwife to join the maternity leadership team as a Band 7 Labour Ward Coordinator. The role focuses on day-to-day operational leadership on the labour ward, coordinating activity and resources, and supporting a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe intrapartum care.

Qualifications

• Registered Midwife with current config
• Mentorship/SLIP/PSPA experience preferred
• Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD)
• Degree in midwifery or relevant subject
• Completed preceptorship

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day operational management of the labour ward and maternity service
• Provide visible clinical leadership and support to midwifery staff during shifts
• Work with obstetric, neonatal and multidisciplinary teams for safe care
• Support patient flow, staffing deployment and escalation of concerns
• Promote high standards of clinical practice, safety and patient experience
• Act as role model, mentor and educator for staff and students
• Participate in senior midwife on-call rotas and Hands on Help duties

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and motivated midwife to join our maternity leadership team as a Band 7 Labour Ward Coordinator at Frimley Park Hospital.

This is an exciting development opportunity for a midwife with strong clinical skills and a passion for delivering safe, high-quality intrapartum care. The post holder will provide day-to-day operational leadership on labour ward, coordinate activity and resources, support the multidisciplinary team, and help drive improvements in the quality and safety of care for women and families.

Main duties of the job

• Coordinate the day-to-day operational management of the labour ward and wider maternity service as required.
• Provide visible clinical leadership and support to midwifery staff throughout each shift.
• Work collaboratively with obstetric, neonatal and multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe and effective care.
• Support patient flow, staffing deployment and escalation of clinical concerns.
• Promote and maintain high standards of clinical practice, safety and patient experience.
• Act as a role model, mentor and educator, supporting the development of staff and students.
• Participate in the senior midwife and Hands on Help on-call rotas.

• Experience of managing a ward area
• Experience of clinical audit/quality issues within the health care setting
• Able to demonstrate awareness of research related to midwifery practice
• Evidence of successful collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams at a senior level.

Desirable criteria

• Experience in guideline development and implementation
• Experience of implementing and influencing clinical governance processes
