Job description

As a Laboratory Technician, you'll play a vital role in our Department, in contributing to the safety and performance of landing gear components through rigorous mechanical, corrosion and forensic testing.

No two days will be the same - this is a fast-paced, hands‑on role ideal for someone who enjoys variety, learning, and being part of a collaborative and technically expert team.

You'll be working closely with colleagues not just in Gloucester, but across Safran Landing System's global network of M&P laboratories, providing critical support to engineering, production, and in‑service teams.

You'll have opportunities to learn and progress, and with investment being made on site it's an exciting time to join our growing local team.

Looking after the people who make Safran great is a priority for us. We offer a range of benefits designed to support you, both in and outside of work.

  • We value your time: We have an early finish on a Friday, giving you time to recharge.
  • Time to unwind: Start with 25 days of holiday, plus UK Bank Holidays, and we offer options to buy or sell days to fit your needs.
  • Sharing in our success: We believe in rewarding your contributions with an annual bonus and share scheme options.
  • Planning for your future: We offer a generous pension scheme, with up to 8% matched contributions, and life assurance at 4x your salary.
  • Making your work life easier: Enjoy onsite parking, including EV chargers, a subsidised restaurant, bicycle storage, and shower facilities.
  • Flexibility that works for you: We offer a wide range of flexible benefits and working options (role dependant), enhanced maternity and family friendly benefits, because we know everyone's needs are different.
About Safran Landing Systems

We are a global leader in aircraft landing and braking systems, from commercial and business travel to military and defence fleets. Our expertise cover the entire life cycle of our products from end-to-end: design, manufacturing, maintenance and repair.

We're at the forefront of aerospace technology, creating safer, more sustainable aviation for the next generation of aerospace.

It's easy to take flying for granted, or forget the incredible amount of technical skills, capability and co‑ordination required to create an aircraft. At Safran, we never take it for granted. Our people's talents and skills come together to make the feat of flying possible. Here, you can create an impact you're proud of, where you're rewarded for your dedication and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities
  • Conducting corrosion testing and mechanical testing including tensile, fatigue, and hardness tests to evaluate material properties.
  • Supporting forensic investigations of in-service landing gear components to determine root causes of damaged components.
  • Preparing metallographic samples for microscopic examination and analysis.
  • Performing chemical analyses in the lab to assess material composition and contamination.
  • Documenting test procedures and results in line with internal quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborating with engineers and specialists to interpret results and recommend actions.
  • Supporting continuous improvement of laboratory processes and practices.

This is a varied, dynamic role requiring a flexible, adaptable approach. One day you might be tensile testing samples, and the next, involved in reviewing internal procedures - there's always something new to learn.

Qualifications

To thrive in this position, you'll need a mix of technical capability, curiosity, and adaptability. We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, enjoys working hands‑on, and takes pride in delivering high-quality work.

  • Hands‑on, practical mindset with strong problem‑solving abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn new processes.
  • A willingness to adapt to changing priorities and take on new challenges.
  • Be pro‑active, organised and work collaboratively as part of a multi‑skilled team.
  • High level of attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
  • Working to procedures, in a quality controlled environment
