Job description

The Laboratory Performance Manager role is responsible for leading laboratory performance activities across the QC laboratory team; including identification and delivery of Continuous Improvement programs and best practice solutions from across the GSK QC network. The role will support the laboratory operations director in laboratory performance management, including scheduling activities and capacity modelling, ensuring that the QC laboratory remains inspection ready at all times and will champion GPS within the laboratory teams. This role will also lead identification and delivery of specific initiatives linked to laboratory Operating Leverage objectives. In this role you will…

  • Lead, develop and drive deliveries of the laboratory performance team within the QC function.
  • Act as an effective change agent within the laboratories; identifying and implementing performance improvements aligned with site objectives and Global QC initiatives.
  • Act as champion for GPS deployment within the laboratory and support implementation and sustaining of aligned GPS standards across all laboratories.
  • Support laboratory operations director in driving performance improvement across the laboratory through e.g. management of lab compliance activities and capacity modelling.
  • Identify and implement effective tracking and trending of key performance metrics.
  • Represent Barnard Castle laboratory team in global forums to identify, share and adopt best practice examples.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement programs aligned to laboratory objectives and KPIs.
  • Support Laboratory Operations Director in maintaining a green productivity, performance and QC compliance dashboard.
  • Identify and deliver improvement activities aligned to laboratory Operating Leverage initiatives.
  • Support site GMP inspections as required.
Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in relevant discipline
  • Working knowledge of the specific sciences used in a laboratory to enable more specific continuous improvement activities, e.g. method optimisation/adoption of new equipment or methods.
  • Experience within pharmaceutical industry, including management experience.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
  • Certification in DMAIC methodology and/or orange belt certification is preferable
  • GSK Barnard Castle is a key secondary manufacturing site and has invested heavily in industry 4.0 state of the art, bespoke equipment to support sustained new product introductions and volume increases, and as a key supplier of some of GSK's blockbuster products, the site contributes revenues of ~$2Bn annually.
