Job summary

Yolk Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Laboratory Manager for a well-established business in the UK. You will lead the laboratory function, guide a team of Technicians and a Team Leader, and partner with the Technical team to uphold high quality and compliance.

You’ll drive testing, audits, documentation and continuous improvement, maintain equipment, manage safety and quality, and prepare for site accreditations. A strong background in microbiology/chemistry and GMP-like systems is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading Laboratory teams and communicating clearly on safety and quality issues.
  • Experience coordinating small lab teams and reporting.
  • Experience in a laboratory function with detailed reporting and SOP writing.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and data trending/analysis.
  • Preferably an HNC/Degree in a science subject with knowledge of Microbiology and Chemistry.
  • Experience of BRCGS, HACCP, CCP validation, microbiological safety and QMS platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop the Laboratory Technicians and Team Leader within a collaborative and high-performance culture with clear communication on safety and quality issues.
  • Plan and oversee testing schedules, ensuring methods are followed and results recorded and monitored.
  • Prepare for and participate in site accreditation audits providing support to the Technical Manager.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained and serviced to schedule and manage new installs and verifications.
  • Lead external analysis and provide feedback to customers and manage non-conformance investigations with Technical and Production.
  • Lead product safety, quality and compliance across all testing activities.
  • Maintain and lead Safety Management Systems and laboratory procedures alongside overseeing testing regimes in line with legislation.
  • KPI reporting, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement of testing procedures and documentation.
  • Lead training to maintain hygiene and safety standards.

What you'll need

  • Experience in a laboratory function, detailed reporting and SOP writing.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and comfortable with data trending/analysis.
  • Preferably HNC/Degree in a science related subject with a knowledge of Microbiology and Chemistry.
  • Experience of BRCGS, HACCP, CCP validation, microbiological safety and QMS platforms.
