Position

Metallurgical Laboratory Manager / Team Leader

Location & Details

Location: South Yorkshire
Sector: Metals testing
Salary: Negotiable, likely to be in the £45,000 - £55,000 range
Hybrid: No, office based in South Yorkshire
Visa Support: Sponsorship may be available for the right candidate

The Role
  • Overseeing / managing a team of 3 laboratory technicians, metallurgists, and materials scientists
  • Ensuring that all work is carried out according to instructions
  • Ensuring that all health and safety requirements are adhered to
  • Ensuring that all equipment is maintained and calibrated as required
  • Ensuring that all reports are accurate and succinct, delivering all required information to stakeholders
  • Personally carrying out testing and report writing as required as part of the team
  • Recruitment, training and development of staff to ensure availability of skills
  • Providing reports to the SLT on activity levels, costs etc.
About You
  • A degree level qualification is essential. This MUST be in Metallurgy, Materials Science or a very similar field
  • Post‑graduate certifications (Masters, MSc, Meng, PhD) are most welcome
  • Proven experience of working in a laboratory environment, ideally for 5 + years
  • Experience of microscopy, mechanical testing, corrosion, surface finish, heat treatment, etc.
  • Fluent written and spoken English, with the ability to write complex technical reports in a clear and concise manner
  • People management / supervisory experience is very much preferred
