Job description

This is a 6 month fixed-term contract. Are you organised and self-motivated? Do you enjoy working independently to support the wider team? If so, you’ll want to take a look at this opportunity! We want to be the water company people want to be supplied by and want to work for. As a Laboratory Commercial Admin Assistant, you’ll take up an important role within our water quality team to provide assistance to the laboratory commercial development manager and support services team. You will take over the day-to-day administrative duties and also assist with basic duties on the sampling reception. In this role, you’ll ensure that samples to and from the laboratory are processed efficiently and timely on internal systems. You’ll also speak to customers and communicate their needs to key staff members when required. Your excellent organisation skills and attention to detail will ensure customer information is updated and maintained on our customer relationship database. Your proficiency in Google Workspace will allow you to create and work with documents and carry out administrative duties as required. The team may need you to carry out ad-hoc tasks for them as well, so a good working knowledge of IT in general will be useful. Ideally, you’ll be local to Hampshire or within travelling distance to our Farnborough laboratory. You’ll have a full driving license and show flexibility with occasional changes to workloads. This is your chance to join a friendly, busy and supportive team that ensures the water used by our communities remains safe and clean.

Main responsibilities:
  • Customer Service: speaking to customers to understand their needs, making note of updated requirements, and dealing with any queries.
  • Data Maintenance: updating and maintaining customer data on customer relationship database, as well as other team records when needed.
  • Sampling Reception: organising samples from commercial customers, supplying sample containers and general day to day assistance as required.
  • General Team Support: communicate with senior members of staff on any quality/technical issue and ensure that key staff are kept informed of customer activities and requirements.
What you’ll need:
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Good standard of Maths and English at GCSE Level
  • An interest in the water industry and laboratory
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence in using IT equipment to fulfil your role.

We want to be the water company people want to be supplied by and want to work for. We know the communities we serve are diverse. We recognise creativity comes from diversity not similarity. That’s why we are enthusiastic about creating inclusion across age, race, gender, ethnicity, religion and identity. You will experience our dedication to equal opportunities and fair treatment for all: through your recruitment, employment and career progression with South East Water.

Benefits package:
  • Excellent Stakeholder pension scheme, up to 10% employer contribution.
  • 5 weeks holiday plus bank holidays per annum, increasing to 6 weeks with length of service.
  • Flexible annual leave policy to buy or sell holiday leave.
  • Paid volunteering days.
  • Cycle to work scheme.
  • Health cash plan.
  • Life assurance.
  • Wellbeing related benefits.
