Job summary

Thames Water is seeking a Laboratory Analyst to join our Reading laboratory, reporting to the laboratory manager. You will carry out water sample analysis, report results within required turnaround times, and follow quality procedures to ensure accurate, compliant testing.

You will maintain records, support targets, assist colleagues, and participate in continuous improvement projects. A scientific degree or laboratory experience is preferred; LCMS/GCMS experience is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • A scientific degree or experience in a laboratory environment with sample analysis.
  • Background in analytical techniques (LCMS/GCMS) is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate data.
  • Good understanding of quality procedures and compliance in regulated environments.
  • Strong organisational, teamwork and communication skills.

Responsibilities

What you’ll be doing as a Laboratory Analyst

Base location: Reading, Spencer House.

Working hours: 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

  • Carrying out laboratory analysis of water samples and reporting results within required turnaround times.
  • Following laboratory procedures and quality management systems to ensure accurate and compliant testing.
  • Identifying and escalating any anomalies, errors or issues that could affect the validity of test results.
  • Maintaining clear and accurate laboratory records and ensuring data integrity.
  • Supporting departmental performance targets for sample completion and reporting.
  • Assisting colleagues and managing your workload to ensure laboratory targets are achieved.
  • Participating in continuous improvement activities and supporting laboratory projects.
What you should bring to the role
  • A scientific degree or experience working in a laboratory environment with sample analysis.
  • A background in analytical techniques such as LCMS and GCMS would be advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate and reliable data.
  • Good understanding of quality procedures and the importance of compliance in regulated environments.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
