Job summary

Sembcorp UK is seeking a Shift Laboratory Analyst to provide high-quality technical service to internal and external customers from the Wilton laboratory. The role requires follow-through on laboratory methods, prioritising tasks and liaising with customers to review results and discuss actions.

The position involves managing own workload, supporting flexible demands, and contributing to safety, quality and continuous improvement initiatives across the analytical business.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to HNC / Degree in science discipline.
  • At least 2 years industrial experience in application of technical skills in an equivalent laboratory role.
  • IOSH Working Safely.
  • SHE awareness including COSHH, Risk Assessments and laboratory standards.
  • Full and clean Manual Driving Licence.
  • Good time and workload management skills along with the ability to work to strict and / or flexible guidelines.
  • Good personable and communication skills.
  • Enhanced IT skills for production of reports and schedules.
  • Reliable and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop multi skilling across a cross section of laboratory activities at this level.
  • Ability to work unsupervised and makes own decisions as occasions demand.
  • Manages, own and others workloads (when applicable).
  • Acts as principle contact for own area of expertise.
  • High concern for standards.
  • Very high attention to detail.
  • Must have accurate reporting and recording skills.
  • Good level of personal resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory methods and procedures to specification and issue quality assured results to customers.
  • Liaise with customers to review results and discuss abnormalities and where appropriate propose actions to improve the situation.
  • Manage own work by sequencing tasks and priorities in accordance with planned analytical schedules.
  • React to periods of high analytical demand and respond flexibly to the wider team demands.
  • Liaise with customers, internal and external to determine requirements for non-scheduled activities, identify optimum solutions and ensure financial recovery is made for the services provided.
  • Develop (as appropriate) and carry out SHE, COSHH, Risk Assessment, Safety / Housekeeping and quality related activities including audits as required by the relevant systems and procedures.
  • Act as the focal point for specific area/s within the Laboratory and actively manage the delivery and development of that service offering.
  • Check, maintain, overhaul, and liaise with called out analytical instrument engineers to maximise the uptime availability of the laboratory equipment and the quality of the results it generates.
  • Support and lead wherever possible the development of new methods and commissioning of new equipment especially within own focal area.
  • Provide specialist training in own area of expertise and flexibly receive for other areas within the Laboratory to maximise the cross functional team working.
  • Maintain an active awareness of trends and developments in relevant science and technology especially in own focal area linking where appropriate to current and future needs.
  • Contribute to the ongoing increased profitability of the Analytical business with particular attention to own focal area and its overall financial contribution to the wider Analytical service offering.
  • Operate all aspects of the purchasing systems including Maximo & Purchasing cards etc for the purchase of items such as laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Operate all aspects of the costs recovery system to ensure that all work outside of the pre-paid schedules is accurately recovered in good time.
  • In response to an on-call bleep, provide technical support (including where appropriate determining requirements for non-scheduled analysis) for any Sembcorp related emergency event.
  • When required carry out analysis during weekends and Bank Holiday periods to fulfil all of the Sembcorp business requirements. This would typically be in "lone worker" situations in the laboratory and sample collection from on-site locations.

Shift Laboratory Analyst

Reporting to the Software, Applications & Data Platform Delivery Manager

Based in: Wilton

Shifts: 4 on, 4 off - 12 Hour Days, 7am - 7pm

Position overview:

To provide a high-quality technical service to Sembcorp UK internal and external customers.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
