  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 16 weeks
  • Start: As Soon As Possible
  • Shift/Hours: Monday–Friday, 11:00 PM–7:00 AM
  • Pay Rate: $19.48 – $26/hr
Job Summary:

The Lab Assistant supports daily laboratory operations by performing routine specimen processing, maintenance, and quality control activities. This position ensures accuracy, efficiency, and adherence to safety and compliance standards to assist the laboratory professional staff in delivering timely and reliable diagnostic results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive, sort, and log incoming specimens.
  • Perform routine instrument maintenance and prepare reagents or media.
  • Centrifuge specimens, print labels, record temperature logs, and manage specimen storage and retrieval.
  • Prepare specimens for testing, including aliquoting, checking for clots/fibrin, and slide preparation.
  • Conduct QA/QC tasks as assigned and resolve pending specimen lists.
  • Locate and resolve missing or delayed samples to maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Decontaminate work areas and perform weekly radioactive wipe tests.
  • Maintain departmental files and documentation.
  • Replace and manage gas cylinders safely and correctly.
  • Follow all safety, PPE, and biohazard disposal procedures.
  • Utilize laboratory computer systems and standard PC software for data entry and tracking.
  • Complete assigned training and competency assessments in a timely manner.
Required Experience:
  • No prior experience required; training provided.
  • Background in laboratory or medical environments preferred.
Required Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Courses in math and science preferred.
  • Medical Assistant training a plus.
Required Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and manage several priorities efficiently.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures and safety practices.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience handling biological or clinical samples.
  • Familiarity with QA/QC documentation and laboratory software systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
