Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Weigh and dry fines samples in the ovens.
  • Record the weights and mill and sieve the samples.
  • Fully prepare the samples by mixing and splitting.
  • Accurately weigh and add fluxes for fire assay.
  • Complete fire assay by cupellation.
  • Clean and prepare samples for weighing.
  • Store fines samples according to customer requirements.
  • Melt and drill metal samples.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and clean all equipment.
  • Follow environmental and 14001 responsibilities.
  • Report environmental breaks and manage spills.
  • Ensure adherence to Health & Safety procedures.

JOB DESCRIPTION – Lab Assistant

Reporting to: Laboratory Manager

Department: Lab – StoneX Metals

Location: West Bromwich

Contract: Full Time

StoneX has acquired a precious metals processing company in West Bromwich which specialises in the recovery and recycling of precious metals, with expertise in extracting silver, gold, platinum and palladium from various materials including photographic, electronics and industrial waste. The integration of the two companies will add refining capabilities to the StoneX Global Metals business and create opportunities for us to offer multiple products across the market.

RESPO NSIBILITIES
  • Weigh and dry fines samples in the ovens.
  • Record the weights and mill and sieve the samples.
  • Fully prepare the samples by mixing and splitting.
  • Accurately weigh the samples, add fluxes and commence fire assay in the floor potting furnaces firstly by pilot sample.
  • Complete fire assay by cupellation.
  • Clean and prepare the prills by hammering/brushing for weighing and weigh.
  • Repeat process once sample assay has calculated and add proof accordingly.
  • Store all fines samples accordingly to Customer and Date.
  • Melt metallic samples, blast furnace bars, oversize bars.
  • Melting Gold samples.
  • Drilling bars for a sample.
  • Good housekeeping and thoroughly cleaning all equipment after stage as to prevent and contamination from previous samples. Cleaning Laboratory glassware.
  • Environmental and 14001 awareness and responsibilities are followed as specified at induction.
  • Management of spills
  • Reporting of environmental breaks of permit
  • Fugitive emissions.
  • First Trained (If required)
  • Health & Safety within the workplace, ensuring all Health and Safety procedures are adhered to, and correct PPR/RPE is worn at all times.
