A leading Catholic primary school in Portsmouth is seeking an enthusiastic class teacher to join their team starting January 2026. The school offers a supportive environment with a focus on professional development and values the contribution of all staff members. Candidates who share the school's commitment to nurturing children’s potential are encouraged to apply. The role demands effective communication, collaboration, and a positive attitude towards teaching.
What skills and experience we're looking for
At St Swithun’s Catholic Primary School, we are dedicated to nurturing a community where both staff and pupils thrive. Our mission, “Love one another as I have loved you,” lies at the heart of everything we do.
Our recent Ofsted inspection (February 2025) affirmed our commitment to excellence, highlighting our caring ethos, high standards, and outstanding staff wellbeing.
We are proud to be an oversubscribed, ‘Good’ Catholic primary school and nursery, with a friendly and welcoming environment where every child is valued. Our school community is diverse and inclusive — with over 50 languages spoken — and our families, staff and governors work together to ensure every child flourishes academically, socially and spiritually.
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed class teacher to join our team from January 2026. Being a Catholic or practising Christian is an advantage but not a prerequisite — we value the unique contribution of everyone who works within our school.
We have a strong culture of professional development and warmly welcome applications from early-career teachers (ECTs) as well as experienced practitioners.
At St Swithun’s, we believe in developing every member of our community — staff and pupils alike — to their fullest potential, in a culture of care, respect and joy in learning.
The school will be open for visits during half term, please email correspondence@sscps.co.uk to make an appointment.
PCC & St Swithun’s Catholic Primary School are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS Disclosure at Enhanced level, and any other background checks, including overseas checks will be required prior to any offer of employment. You will need to demonstrate that you have a Right to Work in the UK. No post will be offered without it.
