Job summary

THE PIG-at Harlyn Bay, Padstow, is seeking a Kitchen Gardener for a seasonal role from September 2026 to April 2027. You will oversee the kitchen garden, support the Head Kitchen Gardener, and engage with guests around the garden area.

Experience in a productive kitchen garden is preferred, with full training provided. A passion for gardening is essential, along with occasional animal husbandry duties for pigs, chickens and quails.

Qualifications

• Experience of working in a productive kitchen garden growing seasonal produce is preferred but not essential.
• Full training and support will be provided, however a real passion for gardening is required.

Responsibilities

• Oversee growth and functionality of the kitchen garden.
• Cover tasks assigned by the Head Kitchen Gardener and ensure the garden is presentable.
• Interact with guests daily as the garden is open to guests.
• Some animal husbandry will be required (pigs, chickens, quails).

Salary: £13.71 per hour (OTE: £15.01 per hour)

Hours: 24 hours per week, over 3 days, September 2026 to April 2027

At THE PIG it all starts in the kitchen garden - the team here are the original Home-Grown Heroes of everything we do. The aim is to grow as much produce on site as possible for use in the kitchens, the garden also acts as a show garden for our guests. We aim to use as many parts of the plants as possible and our garden team ensure there is always plenty of variety for the chefs to use 365 days per year.

Reporting directly to the Head Kitchen Gardener, this is an exciting opportunity for you to join our unique and dynamic team in overseeing the growth and functionality of our kitchen garden. You will be responsible to cover all tasks assigned by the Head Kitchen Gardener ensuring that the garden is always presentable.

As our kitchen garden is open to our guests, you must be confident to interact with them daily. We also are home to pigs, chickens and quails so some animal husbandry will be required.

Experience of working in a productive kitchen garden growing seasonal produce is preferred but not essential. Full training and support will be provided, however a real passion for gardening is required.
