Job summary

Serco Limited’s Gatwick Immigration Removal Centre invites a General Kitchen Assistant to join the Catering team. You will support chefs, prepare diverse menus, and ensure food safety and quality across service periods.

The role requires basic IT skills and strong communication, with experience in fast-paced catering and adherence to health standards. Competitive benefits accompany the position.

Qualifications

• Basic computer skills with Excel, Word and Outlook.
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication.
• Good problem-solving skills and risk management understanding.
• Experience in high-pressure catering operations and tight deadlines.
• Food Safety level 2 or 3 (preferred).
• Awareness of HACCP.
• Awareness of allergen control in catering.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing catering services in line with regulations and guidelines.
• Support Head Chefs and Chefs to enable catering operations.
• Prepare and cook varied, healthy menus for detainees incl. special diets.
• Perform random quality checks on serveries before, during and after meals.
• Order all foodstuffs and consumables for all catering services.
