Job summary

The Stable Cafe and Community Space in Newmarket is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to be the welcoming first face for customers. You will greet patrons, take orders, prepare and serve drinks, and provide table service.

You may also help prepare food and keep the counters and coffee machine clean while assisting with cashing up. The role is 20 hours per week across Tuesday to Saturday, with core hours 10.30am–2.30pm.

Job description

The Stable Café is a friendly community café provided by Christchurch, Newmarket. We’re looking for a Kitchen Assistant to be the welcoming first face our customers see.

You’ll greet customers, take orders, make and serve drinks, and provide table service. You’ll also help prepare food, keep the counter and coffee machine clean, and help with cashing up. You may also be asked to do other reasonable duties.

You’ll need great customer service skills, to be reliable and organised, and basic numeracy for taking payments. You’ll also need to stay friendly when it’s busy. Café or barista experience is a bonus, but it isn’t essential.

The role is 20 hours a week, Tuesday to Saturday, with core hours of 10.30am to 2.30pm. The salary is £13,988 a year. Job shares are welcome: you can apply for the hours that suit you, part of the role or all of it, and salaries are pro rata. Only available on Saturdays? Job-share applications for Saturday-only hours will also be considered.
