Job summary

Liden Academy in Swindon is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to support the smooth running of the school kitchen. You will assist with the preparation, serving and cleaning of meals, following school policies, food hygiene regulations and health and safety requirements to deliver nutritious meals for pupils and staff.

Two term-time vacancies are available: A) 09:00 - 14:00 and B) 10:30 - 14:00. You will help manage allergens, maintain cleanliness, and support the catering team in a safe, welcoming

Qualifications

• Assist with the preparation, cooking and serving of school meals.
• Follow menus, portion sizes and instructions from the Catering Manager.
• Help ensure meals are prepared and served safely and hygienically.
• Support safe management of allergens and special dietary requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene across kitchen, dining and prep areas.

• Set up dining area and assist with service of meals to pupils and staff.
• Wash and clean crockery, utensils and kitchen surfaces.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and report faults.
• Assist with stock control and checking deliveries.
• Follow policies on food hygiene, health and safety, COSHH and safeguarding.

The Role

To support the smooth and efficient running of the school kitchen by assisting with the preparation, serving and cleaning of meals in accordance with school policies, food hygiene regulations and health and safety requirements. To help provide a safe, clean and welcoming environment for pupils and staff, while supporting the catering team to deliver nutritious, high-quality meals and excellent customer service.

Hours

There are two vacancies with slightly differing hours A. 09:00 - 14:00 B. 10:30 - 14:00 Both Term Time Only

Main Duties

• Assist with the preparation, cooking and serving of school meals, snacks and refreshments.
• Follow menus, portion sizes and instructions provided by the Catering Manager or Cook.
• Help ensure meals are prepared and served safely and hygienically, in line with food safety regulations.
• Support the safe management of allergens and special dietary requirements, ensuring appropriate procedures are followed.
• Set up the dining area and assist with the smooth and efficient service of meals to pupils and staff.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen, dining and food preparation areas.
• Wash and clean crockery, utensils, equipment and kitchen surfaces.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and report any faults or maintenance issues.
• Follow school policies and procedures relating to food hygiene, health and safety, COSHH and safeguarding.
• Assist with stock control, including checking deliveries, storing food correctly and reporting low or damaged stock.
• Check food is stored at appropriate temperatures and assist with maintaining accurate temperature records.
• Minimise food waste and use kitchen supplies responsibly.
• Support the catering team with preparation and cleaning before, during and after meal service.
