Job summary

Sheffield United Football Club is seeking an organised, enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our Academy team. The role supports the Academy Kitchen Staff in providing nutritious meals to players and staff.

The successful candidate should have kitchen experience, a passion for healthy food and strong communication skills, while adhering to food hygiene and safety rules. A DBS check will be required on offer.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitise all food prep areas.
  • Prepare food when required (wash, peel, chop).
  • Wash and store cooking appliances and utensils properly.
  • Store food safely and in line with legislation.
  • Keep kitchen tidy; manage waste disposal and cleaning.
  • Assist with unloading deliveries and stocking supplies.
  • Organise and rotate stock to minimise waste.
  • Be aware of special dietary requirements and safety regulations.
  • Follow COSHH regulations for chemicals.
  • Liaise with management on additional requests and safeguarding duties.

Job description

Sheffield United Football Club are seeking an organised, enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our Academy team. The Kitchen Assistant will support the Academy Kitchen Staff in providing nutritious and wholesome meals to both players and staff.

The successful candidate will ideally possess a passion for healthy food and demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills, while adhering to strict food safety and hygiene regulations. As a result, experience in a kitchen environment is essential, along with a strong understanding of food hygiene and safety practices.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Properly cleaning and sanitising all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene.
  • Preparing food when required, which includes washing, peeling, chopping fruit and vegetables.
  • Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards and dishes.
  • Ensuring that all food produce is stored in line with legislation, with a strong understanding of appropriate temperatures etc.
  • Supporting the cleanliness of the work environment, sweeping, and mopping the kitchen floors regularly as well as wiping down kitchen walls. Taking responsibility for discarding waste and rubbish from the kitchen where required.
  • Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies, then storing appropriately.
  • Organising and correctly storing food supplies.
  • Assisting with stock rotation to prevent wastage.
  • Holding an awareness of special dietary requirements which may need to be considered within a kitchen environment.
  • Maintain a sound knowledge of food health and safety regulations.
  • Ensuring that any chemicals utilised within the kitchen are correctly and safely stored in line with COSHH Regulations.
  • Any other reasonable requests as directed by management.
  • Adhere to all Sheffield United Football Club's Safeguarding Policies and Procedures to foster an environment which protects from harm those defined as children and adults at risk.
  • Report any concerns of a Safeguarding nature to the relevant parties and remain fully compliant with any applicable Safeguarding checks and due diligence and recognise your responsibility to the Club's Safeguarding agenda.
  • Report any concerns of discrimination to the relevant parties and promote a welcoming and inclusive club environment for all.
  • Adhere to the Club's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies, supporting the Club to create an environment which is inclusive and all-encompassing.
  • Carry out and actively participate in all training requests as directed by the Club, including mandatory health and safety training, emergency procedures, fire safety, manual handling, safeguarding, and role-specific safety instruction.

Essential Criteria for the Role:

  • Experience working in a professional kitchen.
  • Passionate about healthy food.

  • Strong organisational skills, with well-established time management skills.
  • Flexible working will be required within the role, including the flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays.
  • Completion of a criminal record check through the Disclosure and Barring Service upon offer acceptance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with an ability to build a strong rapport.
  • Professional approach to all aspects of work; punctual, reliable and diligent.
  • Able to use initiative and work to tight deadlines and quickly changing scenarios.
  • A strong emphasis on teamwork and being a team player.
