Job summary

Job description
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in the preparation of meals under the direction of the Chef/Cook.
  • Support with basic food preparation tasks (e.g., chopping vegetables, preparing ingredients).
  • Serve meals to residents in a polite and friendly manner.
  • Ensure kitchen, dining areas, equipment, and utensils are kept clean and sanitised at all times.
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment according to hygiene standards.
  • Assist with the safe storage of food items and monitor stock levels when required.
  • Follow all food hygiene, health, and safety regulations (including HACCP guidelines).
  • Dispose of waste correctly and maintain an organised work environment.
  • Work collaboratively with the care home team to meet residents’ dietary needs.
  • Report any kitchen or equipment issues to the Chef Manager.
Requirements
  • Previous experience as a Kitchen Assistant, Catering Assistant, or similar role (preferred but not essential).
  • Basic understanding of food hygiene and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to complete mandatory training (including Food Hygiene Level 2).
Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working in a care home or healthcare setting.
