The Salvation Army in Holywood is seeking a Kitchen Assistant to join our home team. The role covers 30 hours per week across three days from 8.30am to 7pm, supporting meal preparation, dietary needs, and safe dining experiences for residents.
You will work as part of the kitchen team under the Chef, helping with basic food prep, meal delivery, and maintaining a positive, clean kitchen environment in a 56-resident home that includes a dementia suite.
Sir Samuel Kelly Residential Home is situated 5 miles outside Belfast in the town of Holywood. It is situated in 2-3 acres of woodland and landscaped gardens.
A local family gifted the home to The Salvation Army in the 1960's. Since then it hasbeen used for the care of older people.
In 1997 the home was extended to provide 32 ensuite bedrooms with small group living settings. In2020/21 the original ‘old family home’ was refurbished. We can now able to provide accommodation for 56 residents.
At present the home provides care and accommodation for 56residents who are aged over 65. The upstairs is designed as a dementia suite for 30 residents. Downstairs is for older people who do not have a diagnosis of dementia but require care. Within we are able to offer end of life care for two residents.
The home is divided into 6 small group living setting comprising of ensuite bedroom dining and lounge areas . There are large communal lounges, a cinema room, hairdressing room and spacious corridors, pleasantly decorated and well maintained. The beautiful gardens are a focal point, easily accessed and well used throughout the year. We have access to a local adjoining park.
The Kitchen Assistants in our Homes play a key role in ensuring the smooth and safe operation of our kitchens, ensuring that residents receive high quality meals and dining experiences. The role is essential to the wellbeing of our residents through the provision of high-quality, person-centred dining experiences.
Working as part of the Kitchen team, reporting to the Chef the role is about a lot more than preparing and serving meals – the Kitchen Assistant will support with ensuring the dietary needs of our residents are met in addition to contributing to a safe and positive working environment.
