Overview
A Kitchen Assistant in a nursery plays an essential role in ensuring the daily provision of nutritious meals and snacks for young children, supporting the overall smooth operation of the facility’s kitchen. This individual will help with food preparation, maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene, and support the nursery staff in delivering a safe and welcoming environment for all children.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of healthy meals and snacks following specific dietary requirements and allergy guidelines for children.
- Keep all kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils spotlessly clean and sanitised, maintaining strict hygiene standards.
- Wash dishes, pots, and pans manually or using a dishwasher, ensuring all items are safe and ready for use.
- Safely dispose of kitchen waste, managing recycling and rubbish according to health and safety protocols.
- Help receive and correctly store food deliveries, checking labels and expiry dates, and rotating stock as appropriate.
- Follow all nursery health, safety, and food hygiene procedures, keeping detailed records when required (for example, temperature checks and cleaning logs).
- Support nursery staff by preparing snacks and drinks for classroom activities or special events.
- Respond promptly to any spills or hazards, ensuring a safe kitchen and dining environment for children and staff.
