Job summary

Catholic Recruitment seeks a Kitchen Assistant to support the college catering team in Bradford. You will help with preparing, cooking and serving meals that meet quality and nutritious guidelines in line with college policies.

Role focuses on food safety, safe working practices, and assisting with cleaning, portioning, and service. You will work with the team to ensure pleasant dining experiences for students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to operational procedures and ensure high standards of Food Safety and Safe Working Practices.
• Prepare and cook vegetables, potatoes, sauces, gravies and salads as instructed.
• Prepare the dining room and service area, move furniture, and maintain Safe Methods of Working.
• Serve meals attractively and hygienically, respecting customer preferences.
• Clean and store away equipment, wipe dining areas and restack furniture after service.
• Assist with cleaning kitchen, stores, toilets, drains and waste areas; help others when needed.
• Maintain hygiene and safety under relevant regulations and college policies.
• Present a neat appearance with high personal hygiene standards.
• Assist Catering Manager in recording take-up of meals by electronic or manual methods.
• Work to deadlines with precision and speed during service.

Role Overview

To assist in the provision of high-quality catering services to the students and staff in the College. You will work as part of the catering team preparing, cooking and serving meals which adhere to quality and nutritious guidelines as stated in the College’s policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Adhere to operational procedures and ensure that high standards of Food Safety and Safe Working Practices are always maintained. The Kitchen Assistant is responsible for ensuring that only appropriate food types are served to meet individual customer needs according to set policy and procedures including religious, medical, or dietary preferences
• Prepare and cook vegetables, potatoes, sauces, gravies and salads as instructed by the Catering Manager. Willing to undertake additional training/duties relating to the preparation, cooking, presentation, and service of food
• Prepare the dining room and service area, moving furniture (tables, benches, chairs) as required whilst maintaining compliance to Safe Methods of Working. Wipe and clear dining tables, trays, and service counter during service or in between sittings as required
• Serve the meal as attractively and hygienically as possible giving consideration to customers’ preferences and needs. Ensure that customers are treated politely and served with a friendly smile
• Clean and store away all equipment used during preparation cooking and service. Clean dining room floor and furniture etc after service and restack furniture if necessary
• Assist with cleaning the kitchen, stores, toilets, drains, swill bins, dustbins etc. A willingness to help others is essential
• Responsible to oneself and working colleagues for a high standard of hygiene and safety under the Food Safety and Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013, the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and the policies of the College and regulatory bodies
• Clean and smart in appearance with good standards of personal hygiene
• Assist the Catering Manager in recording the take-up of the College’s meals, by electronic or manual processes
• Work to deadlines, with precision and speed as appropriate to complete tasks to pre-set times
