Technical Sales Engineer Job Overview
- Provide technical engineering support and advice to the internal sales team.
- Support Business Development Managers with quotations and customer enquiries requiring technical input.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal teams to understand technical requirements and identify suitable engineering solutions.
- Assist with the analysis, preparation and management of technical drawings using SolidWorks.
- Accompany Business Development Managers on customer visits, providing technical support and gaining experience in working with customers' engineers and purchasing teams.
- Develop towards conducting customer visits independently and providing technical advice directly to customers.
- Assist with new product introductions, including supporting Product Line Managers with technical information and training.
- Support the management of key OEM customer accounts, helping to resolve technical queries and product quality issues.
- Assist with the management and organisation of engineering drawings within the company's drawing management system.
- Support product quality activities, including product inspection, segregation and minor product modifications where required.
- Assist with the management of material certificates and associated customer documentation.
- Support the company's ISO and product quality management processes.
Technical Sales Engineer Job Requirements
- Engineering qualification such as an HNC, HND, degree, apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Suitable for engineering graduates, apprentices or candidates at the beginning of their engineering career.
- An interest in developing a career combining engineering, technical support and customer interaction.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical information.
- Some experience or knowledge of 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks, would be advantageous.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical approach to engineering issues.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to build relationships with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
- Organised and able to manage multiple technical enquiries and tasks.
- Previous technical sales or field-based sales experience is not essential, as training and development will be provided.
- Willingness to develop towards a customer-facing technical role and undertake occasional travel to customer sites.
