Job summary

DS Smith in Ely is seeking a Junior Structural Designer to join our Design and Innovation team. You will create structural packaging designs, drawings, samples and prototypes using CAD, interpreting customer briefs while balancing creativity with manufacturability and cost.

You will work with Account Management, Commercial, Production and Artwork teams, develop CAD skills, and follow a structured development path as you progress with DS Smith.

Qualifications

• Experience with ArtiosCAD or similar CAD software.
• Interest in packaging and POS design; experience in product or structural design preferred.
• Able to read production guides and tolerances.
• Experience in a design studio, packaging or manufacturing environment.
• Adobe Illustrator proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Create structural packaging designs, drawings, samples, prototypes and mock-ups using CAD software.
• Demonstrate understanding of corrugated material, board grades and tolerances.
• Interpret customer briefs to develop innovative, commercially viable packaging solutions.
• Manage project information and ensure work is delivered on time and to the required quality standards.
• Collaborate with Account Management, Commercial, Production, Creative and Artwork teams.
• Ensure designs comply with customer, retailer and manufacturing requirements.
• Support continuous improvement through attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the Design Studio.
• Apply quality principles to outputs meeting specifications and standards.
• Experience using ZUND digital cutting table to produce samples and prototypes.
• Read and interpret stock load-ups, laydowns, assembly guides, and product specs accurately.
