Job description

We are looking to appoint an experienced, clinically sound PACU nurse who is enthusiastic to develop others and be involved in the education and development of staff in the role of Sister/Charge nurse Practice Development Lead for PACU.

A candidate with strong interpersonal skills to complement our established team and take the lead of one of our sub divided teams in PACU.

You will possess clinical expertise, act as a resource for the patients, nursing and medical colleagues and actively participate in further development of services within the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit.

Nursing within the day surgery PACU, main theatre PACU and outlying services provides an opportunity to develop your high dependency skills within a very friendly, supportive and progressive environment.

The unit provides post-operative care for a wide range of surgical specialities including; Brachy Therapy, Hepato-biliarily, Robiotic and Maxillo Facial surgery.

You will find yourself regularly challenged in an area where your ongoing professional development will be actively encouraged and supported. Team members are highly valued and innovation is supported within the unit.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist the PACU Team Lead nurse in leading the nursing team in the provision of high quality, research based, nursing care that is patient focused.
  • To act as a role model to less experienced nurses, ensuring appropriate care of post anaesthetic and critically ill patients within the Post Anaesthetic Care Unit is planned, implemented and evaluated.
  • To support the PACU Team Lead nurse in the management and facilitation of the development of staff creating an effective team
  • To foster a multidisciplinary approach to patient care in line with Clinical Governance.
  • Assist in the management and organization of the nursing service in the clinical area, with a focus on practice develop and the teaching and management of more junior staff or those in training, and on a regular basis to take charge of the PACU Area.

The post holder will provide a high standard of Post Anaesthetic Recovery Care to all patients following a variety of surgical procedures, reflecting individual competencies and education, ensuring that care is evidence based and patient centered.

Assist in the management and organization of the nursing service in the clinical area including the teaching and management of more junior staff or those in training, and on a regular basis to take charge of the Post Anaesthetic Care Area.

Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse Part 1 or 12 / City & Guilds 752 / NVQ Level III in Operating Department Practice
  • Degree / Diploma or evidence of equivalent experience
  • Evidence of recent professional updating and relevant personal development
  • IV Additives
  • Intermediate Life Support (ILS)
  • Paediatric Intermediate Life Support (PILS)
  • Practice Assessor, Mentor Prep or equivalent
  • ALERT
  • Management Qualification
Knowledge
  • Demonstrable experience in Post Anaesthetic Care, HDU or Critical Care Experience at Band 5
  • CPD - Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
